Since the end of April 2009, health news has been laden with the outbreak of A / H1N1 Influenza. After Mexico where the virus first appeared, several countries have reported a few cases. In addition to the American continent, some European countries are also affected.

Cholera Epidemic in Guinea Bissau and flood in Togo: The West African Health Organisation provides a total of FCFA 34,500,000 in financial aid to the two countries by West African Health Organization.

In July and August 2008, the Director General of the West African Health Organisation presented to the Governments of Guinea Bissau and Togo, a financial aid of fourteen million and five hundred thousand (FCFA14 500 000) and twenty five million (FCFA25000 000) respectively .

The ninth ordinary Assembly of ECOWAS Health Ministers took place in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, from 25th to 26th of July 2008. All the community member countries took part in the meeting. These are: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra- Leone and Togo. Mauritania attended the meeting as an observer.

Appointed in January 2008 by the Authority of the ECOWAS Heads of State, Dr Placido Monteiro CARDOSO, from Guinea Bissau and Dr Jeanetta Koyah JOHNSON, of Liberia, officially occupied the chairs of Director General and Deputy Director General respectively of the West African Health Organization (WAHO), with effect from 7 April 2008.
