Bobo-Dioulasso, 25 October 2017 – A delegation from KfW is on a visit to the headquarters of the West Africa Health Organisation (WAHO). The three-day visit from 25 to 27 October 2017 aims at preparing the phase 5 of the regional reproductive health programme (RRHP).

The general objective of the program is to contribute to a reduction in maternal morbidity and mortality in ECOWAS countries. More specifically, it is about contributing to (i) the securitisation of Reproductive Health (RH) commodities (ii) a positive change of behaviour with regard to the utilisation of reproductive health services.

The mission undertaken by KfW seeks to formulate the content of phase 5 of the regional reproductive health programme and the prevention of HIV in the ECOWAS region. Moreover, phase 4, for which a separate agreement was signed in April 2017 for a total amount of 15 million Euros, will be implemented over a period of four years (2018-2021).

The KfW delegation will take advantage of their presence at WAHO to meet the team from the Department for diseases and epidemics control within the framework of the impending start of the programme for strengthening epidemiological and health surveillance. A financing agreement has been signed in that regard, during the visit of the DG of WAHO for a total amount of 10 million Euros.  This project will start at the beginning of 2018, and will focus on strengthening the “Laboratory” component of the ECOWAS Regional Centre Disease Control and Surveillance (ECOWAS-CDCS)
