West Africa Health Organisation (WAHO) Supports Nigeria with High Resolution Thermal Cameras for Airport Screening

25 April, 2019 | Abuja – Five years after Nigeria experienced an Ebola outbreak, the country has continued to build on lessons learned. On the 24th of April 2019, the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) donated a thermal camera to be used at the new terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. This is part of a set of high resolution thermal cameras provided in three airports - Abuja, Enugu and Kano.

At the commissioning of the thermal camera in Abuja by the Honourable Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, the Director General of WAHO Professor Stanley Okolo committed to continue supporting health security in Nigeria, by working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Port Health Services and other relevant agencies.

In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of Health expressed his gratitude to WAHO, stating that the thermal cameras will strengthen the country's efforts at real time surveillance and detection at ports of entry. The Honourable Minister was represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole.
