In Ouagadougou to attend the high-level meeting on adequate and sustainable financing for health, demographic dividend, population and development policies in the ECOWAS region, in Mauritania and Chad, the Director General of WAHO participated in the official graduation ceremony of the first batch of students for Masters in public health at the Joseph Ki Zerbo University, Ouagadougou.

This event, presided over by Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, brought together members of Government, the graduating students and many invited guests from the field of training and higher learning. The graduation of this first batch, which was christened “Professor Nicolas MEDA”, after the name of the current Minister of health of Burkina Faso, is the manifestation of the acknowledgement of his efforts towards the rollout of this training, considered by all to be yet another success to the credit of the Ki Zerbo University of Ouagadougou, which has the ambition to maintain this training so as to provide Burkina and the West Africa region with quality health personnel.

The presence of the Director General, Dr Xavier CRESPIN, at the graduation ceremony is explained by the great interest the Directorate General of WAHO has in the solutions that could resolve the problem of inadequacy of qualified health professionals and their inadequate utilisation in the ECOWAS region. This is testified by the special place given to this issue in the Institution’s strategic plan for period 2016-2020 through the programme devoted to the development of human resources in the health sector, whose vocation is to facilitate training as well as the utilisation and free movement of health professionals in the ECOWAS region
