This event is part of a rigorous process that began at a technical workshop in Lomé in December 2024 and continued with a review of the document in Praia in May 2025.
This session brought together directors in charge of Digital Health and Information Systems from ECOWAS Member States, representatives from Ministries of Health, as well as regional experts and resource persons. The work focused on technical and institutional validation, consolidation and collective ownership of the draft strategy.
Participants conducted an in-depth critical review of the first draft strategy, analysing priority areas such as governance, interoperability, infrastructure, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. These group discussions and plenary sessions resulted in the development of a consolidated strategy document, accompanied by an operational plan and budget, clearly defining roles and responsibilities for implementation.
Implemented by WAHO in collaboration with Member States and technical and financial partners, this initiative seeks to build a secure, interoperable regional digital health ecosystem aligned with ECOWAS Vision 2050, in order to improve the resilience of health systems and the quality of care for the region's populations;
