
The Director General of the West African Health Organisation (WAHO), Dr Melchior Athanase Aïssi, is participating from 4-6 August 2025, in the 15th Best Practices Forum in Health & the 31st Directors’ Joint Consultative Committee Meeting in the Mauritius, organised by the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), under the theme “Enhancing Health Systems for Equity, Resilience and Sustainability.”
In his address, Dr Aïssi commended this strategic platform which brings together health ministers, experts, researchers and development partners from across the continent. He stressed that, “placing best practices at the heart of our collective efforts is key to building strong, inclusive and prepared health systems, ensuring universal health coverage and health security for all.”
Dr Aïssi also highlighted the need to:
- strengthen primary health care through community health
- promote innovation and local pharmaceutical production;
- invest in leadership and human resources for health;
- intensify the fight against non-communicable diseases and epidemic-prone diseases.
The Forum, being held from 4 to 6 August 2025 in Mauritius, will culminate in concrete recommendations to be submitted to ministerial bodies to accelerate the transformation of health systems in Africa.
